My father was often funny in a self-deprecating kind of way. He had something of an inferiority complex towards my mother who had various letters after her name. So he put COD after his. Many people took it seriously.

I love the funny that is so spontaneous and the person is not even aware of it.

@SW-User Sometimes one thinks fast, sometimes the opposite. My father, self employed, would collect certain items from peoples' homes for repair. Sometimes regardless of his best intentions, they'd lie in his workshop for ages. He once met one of his victims face-to-face in a village shop. "My god, it's Bertha! I'm so glad to see you. Somebody told me you'd died!". She believed him.

I think it's largely self-taught , resulting from being an introvert and reacting to the knocks of life; a way around feeling hurt.
