Fisherman dies fleeing elephants, killed by crocodile
A 52-year-old fisherman in eastern Zambia died after being attacked by a crocodile while fleeing a herd of elephants near the Luangwa River. Dean Nyirenda was returning from a fishing trip with friends when the encounter forced him into a stream, where the crocodile bit his thigh.
Nyirenda used a stick he was carrying to hit the crocodile, freeing himself from its jaws.
He dragged himself from the water, where his companions tried to stop the heavy bleeding. Police said he died soon after from excessive blood loss caused by deep bite wounds.
