How many guinea pigs would it take to pull a chariot?

I'm talking about Ben-Hur style chariots where you are competitively racing against other guinea pig powered chariots. What's a good solid number for horsepower (or guinea pig power), but keeping the overall length of the guinea pigs short enough so you can still turn?

A guinea pig can produce about 1/28 hp (I don't know if that's continuously or just in a burst)

So for Ben Hur to still beat Messala, he'll need 4 x 28 guinea pigs or 112 guinea pigs

But that seems a big unweildy and I don't imagine you'd travel at 128 times the speed of one guinea pig...
