Never. People are asked not to do that around here, because it encourages the animals to venture into the populated areas. Some have gotten into backyards, attacked pet dogs and cats. There are lots of coyotes, mountain lions and even the occasional bear sighting in some parts not too far away.

@bijouxbroussard
I rescued a deer hanging upside down in barbed wire ..
I cut the wire ,it dropped to its back ,jumped up and ran off ..
Everyone was “haven’t you seen the video when animals attack “?
Yeah ,,have you ever tried to chew your own leg off because it hurt and you were trapped and helpless ?
I shoot game I don’t torture it ..
I stopped doing that when I cut down a huge shepherd and he got in my car and climbed on top of my son in his car seat ,then wanted to eat me up getting him out of my car ..
I’d still rescue anything or anyone ,that’s what I do ..
But no longer if my family is with me
If I die doing good that’s one thing ,,
If my action’s had gotten my son hurt ..
I couldn’t live with that ..
@rckt148 In the hills where my parents live, there are a lot of deer. There was a little tiny fawn on their porch, once when I was visiting. Just looking at all of us. My sister wanted to go to it, but Pop held her back, and sure enough, a doe appeared and led it away.

@bijouxbroussard
Yeah ,getting them used to humans is bad for several reasons ..
1 they start to depend on humans ,deer are controlled by 2 things ,eating and mating ..
2 if the find a good source of food more follow (the reason baiting is not allowed during hunting )
3 once they become a menace FGW will have to come in and allow a kill ,,
Parks and populated areas ,,
Hitting one even at slow speeds will do a lot of damage to a car ,,
Then it ways there and suffers until it bleeds out or someone puts it down .
Lots of people try to turn them into puts , .it’s harmless until it grows antlers and it’s mating season ,,
Not so cute then ..
And if scared they can raise up and put a hooves through you ..
Best to scare them off ,
They also destroy crops and gardens ..

I do not. Besides the desired target animals, there are the squirrels, skunks, coons, possums and rats that also tend to show up and cause problems. Once the rats start nesting close by their newfound food source, the snakes move inalong with other undesirable predators.

@rckt148 Cats must taste really good. Everything hunts them. I saw a coyote the other night walking down the sidewalk with a cat in its mouth.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TexChik they are easy to catch
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@TexChik we had ones tail stripped of all its fur and skin ,
Coyote must have tried pulling it through the wire ,now we had to have its tail removed ..
We had ones leg removed ,another an eye ,I wanted to just put them down but my daughter wouldn’t hear of it ..
Now they line up and get along so that I’ll pet them ,I feel bad now that I wanted to shoot them ..
I wanted them all gone ,
But the state of the world ,
I’m willing to try smoked cat ..lol
Some of the meat I get from some of our restaurants I don’t recognize and I’ve cleaned a lot of game ,,
One restaurant was closed here ,cat found in their freezer after a water leak required they be inspected ..
So I may be eating cat already ,,
Tasty with the right sauce lol 😂
Just don’t tell me ..

Sometimes I do. Bread is probably not the best thing but when they are hungry it will fill their bellies enough to keep them from starving. I shell pecans and the ones with spots they can have, leftover cornbread is really loved by wild birds like ravens and crows, and fruit scraps are good too. Rabbits will eat watermelon from the rind if you put it out for them and some other fruit.
meggie · F
@cherokeepatti the crows are sometimes quicker than the squirrels and take the peanuts in shells and hold them in their feet and crack them open. They are clever birds. They have learnt to follow the squirrels and see where they hide their nuts and steal them
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@meggie when I lived in the country as a teenager I caught a wild crow and fed him cornbread and released him. I fed him every day for months, that crow would follow my car down the driveway when I went to work and would wait on the mailbox and follow me back to the house. He didn’t like sliced wheat bread and would take it and put it out in the yard under a tree, find a leaf to put on top and then find a rock to put on the leaf to keep it from blowing away. 😂 Our German shepherd would watch and wait till he left and go get the bread. But if I gave him a chunk of cornbread he’d eat that up quickly, or canned corn.

@cherokeepatti many have taught them tricks using food and they work it out whereas lots of other birdscare not so ckever.
An apple or piece of bread for squirrels, etc.
We go through lots of birdseed.
Dino11 · M
Just oiled sunflower seeds for the birds and the squirrels.
Tracos · 51-55, M
Leftovers?? What's that?
bhatjc · 46-50, M
Some times yes. When I'm at my cabin. I put out some of the left over food. depends on what the food is as well. have a stump out front.
bhatjc · 46-50, M
@meggie I have heard you are having a dry spell in the UK. Sounds like you guys need to build desalination plants along the coast. Beautiful country UK. That is nice you leave water outside for them. I had deer on my street. Live up in the mountains.
meggie · F
@bhatjc i love the mountains. We may get up to 40 degrees this weekend, so very hot for UK.
bhatjc · 46-50, M
@meggie That is hot for the uk. you have some lovely Mountains and hills in the. Where in the Uk are you
have birdfeeders out in my trees. put bread with peanut butter and bird feed out for the squirrels and have a colony of feral cats I feed
meggie · F
@saragoodtimes you are very kind
@meggie don't like squirrels but they have to eat in the winter. birds are year round and the cats didn't ask to be feral. they appreciate being fed and having a warm place to eat. wish they would come in
meggie · F
@saragoodtimes they are lucky to have you. A lot of birds die in the winter as food is so scarce. I put a few bowls out for them and its gone in minutes.
SW-User
yeah i do
especially in winter when there is little food about for them
SW-User
@meggie i know its a shame its getting harder. every year more habitats are removed for houses
meggie · F
@SW-User or deforestation. Lots of animals have become more urbanised too as there is no where else for them to go oe find food.
SW-User

smiler2012 · 56-60

MrsRachelEvans · 26-30, F
Yes. I put out fatballs and old bread.
SW-User
I sometimes feed feral cats
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
Sometimes. Not often though - I can’t even throw moldy bread to the birds without the wife yelling at me. 😄
Piper · 61-69, F
No, not unless I know what I put out for them is actually beneficial for them to eat.
wildbill83 · 36-40, M

Bklynbadboy12 · 31-35, M
