Long story short, a dear family friend & I were walking down the street when I stumbled across a bird that looked injured. After going closer to her, she didn’t fly away from us & her wing looked so hurt & when she did try to move away, she had a bad limp. We called our local vet & they refused to take her. We called an animal rescue 3 times, no one answered. Since she was right by the side of the sidewalk at an angle where if a car went to park there, she would be run over. So, I took it upon myself to get a plastic bag, a giant CVS bag & newspaper. We decided to pick her up & at least bring her to a tree. We knew she was really hurting cause she didn’t put up a fight & didn’t seem scared in the CVS bag. In fact, she seemed more calm & content. We walked her to a nice, quiet place in some ferns & leaves in the backyard. My hopes went up when she drank a lot of water but, she didn’t eat yet. We broke up a loaf of bread & left her plenty of water for overnight. We were hoping for the best but, prepared for the worst. Well, I’m pleased to report that the little trooper made it through the night!!!! Still didn’t eat but, got plenty of rest. Our plan now is to bring her to a bird rescue place in Manhattan cause I can’t have her in my house & neither can my dearest family friend. We named her Chika! Anyway, that’s all for now. I’ll update you if anything else happens.
At least some people have hearts. You are amazing. I did something similar in 2009 when I was a teen. I was walking around and stopped to see something moving in the ground. It was a bird who had its head stuck in the ground. I took a stick and gently used it to pull the back of its wings. It was free and flew away.
