I Am An Alcoholic

So, sober for many years now, thank goodness, and have just kinda realised the extent of my issues.

I go to AA meetings and such, from time to time, but generally have my own resolve to get through it all. Basically, the sentence ‘Another 9 months of drinking and you’ll be dead before the end of the year...’ works wonders......

Still, naivety does rule the roost sometimes.....

That was, until today.

Just chatting with a friend who is an addict counsellor about general things, y’know? Shooting the shit and stuff. Then the conversation came to my sobriety.

I mentioned my drinking habits, of like, 9 years, of which was practically 2 litres of vodka per day, every day....sometimes with a drop of wine thrown in too.

She stopped. Looked at me shocked....and I could see her thinking....

‘Y’Know, that’s around 80 units of alcohol a DAY.....which is....’ she stops to count ‘...about 560 units a WEEK! Fuckin’ hell, girl!’

She then went on to tell me that the UK recommend a WEEK is 20 units!

It...Has....blown.....my.....mind!

Her statement would seem sobering. I'm confident you can regain control.

@PhoenixPhail Oh, I am in control, believe me, but sometimes there’s a little weakness....never done anything about it, never drank...but it has occasionally been there.....

One time I just ended up picking up a friend’s glass, just by instinct, and that freaked me out! Lol!

But yes....comments can be quite sobering!

@MartikaDuponte1 I think you're doing great. There are so many who can't find a fraction of the discipline you have, as I'm sure you know. I applaud you. 👏
