I Am a Recovering Alcoholic

I spent 30 years of my adult life refusing to believe that I was an alcoholic, totally convinced that I had my drinking under control and that drinking was not causing any problems in my life.

Losing all my friends did not convince me.

Nor did a divorce.

Nor did losing contact with my sons.

Nor did so many incidents of vile behaviour that common sense screamed out to the world that I was a hard core alcoholic.

But over 12 years ago I had my personal epiphany and joined a support group with no religious affiliations or attachment.

Through baring my soul in my weekly meetings, through listening to other people's experiences, through total honesty and discipline, I have come to a far better place in my life and with myself, a place I never dreamed would be possible,

For the first time in my life I actually like the person I am and am completely at peace with never drinking again in my life.

Life is good

Thank you very much. It was hard but definitely worth it.

Now I am in regular contact with one of my sons and have a granddaughter to spoil silly, and never to let her see her grandad drunk
