I Have An Alcoholic Boyfriend
It looks like C. will never stop drinking. After five years of this roller-coaster relationship, I'm done. I feel badly about giving up but I have given her so many second chances, and every time she promised she wouldn't drink ever again. One shandy and three beers later (not a lot, I know but it was more than enough to turn her from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde) she goes off on me and it turns into a shouting match. She never hears me and just keeps angrily repeating herself. She twists my words around and suddenly everything is my fault.
It's not just that, though. Her personality even when sober is not a great match for mine (never confuse domineering with dominant.) She tries to be loving and nurturing at times, but I can see that it is only an act, applied like cheap theatrical paint that readily washes away in a flood of alcohol.
I'm done, C. It's over. I want to be taken care of for a change, not always having to watch my back around you. There will be no next time. Not this time.
