I Am the Child of An Alcoholic

My senior year of high school my mom finally gave up the beer. My dad was also a heavy drinker. When he became a type 2 diabetic, he stopped drinking. I look back on my childhood and I often wonder how I lived through it! All the times we went to visit family and my dad drove us home drunk! (Family lived anywhere from 4 blocks to 30 miles away). I did drink for a few years. When I had my 2nd son, I decided not to have alcohol in the house. Since then I have rarely drank. Never have I used my parents drinking as an excuse. Choosing to go back to school to better myself; rising above that drama! If I can do it anyone can!

My mom said she quit drinking. She got drunk a couple of weeks ago and almost messed up her relationship with her fiancé. She threatened to hurt a lot of people. My boyfriend drinks. I drank a lot when I was younger and did lots of stupid stuff. I don't drink like I used to. It's good to hear that you decided not to follow in their footsteps. Good luck with your studies!

@lovebutterflyangel Thank you I am currently working on my Masters while teaching full time. I am sorry your mom is drinking again. If you need any one to talk to you can always send me a message.

My mom falls off the bandwagon every once in a while. It was just bad this time because she stayed drunk for three days acting a fool and making her fiancé angry. What will be your masters major? I appreciate your sentiments. :)
