Time to quit sugar again

Several days ago, I started back on sugar after a 3-year quit( except for 4 one-day cheat days a year), because I got seriously depressed. I used sugar to treat that. I don't have health insurance, so I couldn't get antidepressants. However, sugar affects your brain just like cocaine, and this fixed my depression. 🙂

Now, like I knew would happen, my body is suffering. Autoimmune disorders are flaring, fever blisters are showing up, and my joints are swelling. The depression is better, so tomorrow will be my first clean day in a few days. I'm not too worried about it. I have been through the sugar withdrawal process many times, but I will miss the way my brain has been firing on all cylinders of late. 😃

I have ADHD (one of my many labels), so the way sugar affects your brain like cocaine( a stimulant, the same as Ritalin or Adderall) really does help my brain, but it kills (literally) my body. I have Familial Hypertriglyceridemia, and sugar, other sweeteners, bad fats, and carbs are the enemies of my body.😔

I also have 2 MTHFR mutations, and sugar consumption can impair methylation processes and stress the liver, which may be particularly problematic for individuals with MTHFR mutations.😔

So sugar could never be a long-term solution to depression for me. I don't think that if I had been consuming sugar all the time that it would have worked to relieve the depression in me at all. I think it worked this time because my body wasn't used to it.🙂

Anyway, tomorrow I get back on the wagon...🙂

Aww cute puppies .. they say gardening and running also makes people happy.. you could try that instead of sugars 🙂
@YoMomma Thank you for the wonderful advice. I will give gardening a try next summer. My running days are past, though I could walk more for sure. 🙂
