The Best Explanation of the Cause and Treatment of Addiction [I Addiction]

I see so many groups and posts on SW about people suffering with and battling depression, anxiety, loneliness, self-harm, and stories which depict addictive behaviors.

Dr. Gabor Maté, renowned addiction expert, calls for a compassionate approach toward addiction, whether in ourselves or in others. Dr. Maté believes the source of addictions is not a brain disorder, largely due to genetics, as the medical profession would have us believe, but in the early childhood environment. Neither does he believe the cure of addictions lies in actions taken by the legal system which sees addiction as a choice, and seeks to punish addicts into "proper" behavior. He believes all addictions originate in trauma and emotional loss.

I invite anyone with addiction to anything, or anyone who would care to know more about the addiction process and treatment, to view Dr. Maté's explanation of addiction and what is called for regarding the means of recovery.

Blessings To All. 🙏
