I think the best way to make someone feel accepted is to just treat them normally

Not that there's anything wrong with treating one who belongs to a group that isn't widely accepted nicer than you normally treat other people. But I believe the best one can treat someone who may live a different lifestyle which they might face frequent judgement and/or hostility for is to just treat them normally. Like it's no big deal and they're just a person like any other, which is how it should be. I doubt I'll live to see the day where there's widespread acceptance of people who are considered different or taboo now, but I think one of biggest factors to achieving such acceptance is normalization.
