Back in high school was my crush's angry reaction to me "forgetting" to say thank you to her when holding the door normal?
So to clear things up first obviously I know high school was a long time ago at age 25 and is irrelevant to my life today... but I'm still curious. It's one of the things that stayed in my mind. For context this was back when I was 16 and in the 10th grade. My crush was slightly older than me, I think 17 in the 11th grade. I have some pretty severe social anxiety that causes me to literally freeze up and that makes it hard for me to even say thank you, hello, or good morning.
My crush had held the door for me like five or six different times and I never said thank you because I was so nervous around her that I couldn't speak. She showed no reaction. One day though I mustered up enough courage to finally say thank you to her and I felt pretty proud of myself. She just sort of replied "yep" and I thought that was that.
But then as I was leaving the hallway, she shouted really loudly so everyone could here: "OH MY GOD EZRA JOHN SMITH! THANK YOU FOR SAYING THANK YOU! FOR JUST EXACTLY ONCE IN YOUR LIFE YOU WERE FINALLY A KIND AND CONSIDERATE PERSON! AGAIN THANKS FOR SAYING THANKS EZZIE AND HAVE JUST A WONDERFUL AND PEACHY AMAZING DAY!"
For the record "Ezra John Smith" is not my real full name, I just used it as an example, she said my first, middle, and last name.
And she didn't say it in a playful way. She sounded very sarcastic and very angry and full of hatred. I had never felt so ashamed in my life but my mind to cope just sort of felt indifferent instead of crying. I just kept walking and didn't reply to her because I didn't know what to say. All I knew was I completely blew things with her.
In the beginning she was actually somewhat nice to me, smiling as she held the door. But I guess she got tired of being nice.
Maybe I could've had a chance with her if not for my severe social anxiety.
Either way is this type of reaction normal? That's what I wanna know.
