@Musicman My babysitter was Smitty Smith's niece over at their home, I used to bang on his kit in their basement. Smitty was the drummer for Paul Revere and the Raiders.
@NativePortlander1970 How cool!!! 😎😎😎
@Musicman It was, it brought me a lifelong fascination with percussion. In fifth grade, at my first iowa school we were starting band and the teacher asked who wanted to snare, I raised my hand along with two other boys, he said he needed two, not three. So he set up a test to see who could beat along with Ravel's Bolero, and I was first up. It took me less than 30 seconds to catch it and play along, the other two were quite unsynchronized. HOWEVER, THEY got the gigs, why? because they took piano lessons and I didn't, a stupid rule iowa schools had at the time 🙄

@Musicman It was among the first incidents, at the age of ten, that made me start questioning the mentality of iowans, in Oregon the band teacher would have made me the only snare drummer.
