I grew up in the 70s.ABBA were great topping the charts with great hits. Musically they were good, catchy songs but nothing special when you analyse them.
Ok , true. Not fair . I'm comparing them to the Beatles, Brian Wilson, Crosby Stills and Nash .

@BridgeOvertroubledWaters ABBA never really conquered the USA like it did Europe. We'd already seen a two-man, two-woman singing group, the Mamas and the Papas, several years earlier.
@BridgeOvertroubledWaters Heathen, ABBA didn't win the 1974 Eurovision on "nothing special", not only did they bring a fresh new sound to music, they were also the musical heavyweights of Sweden, backing numerous other talents from Scandanavia, from A-Ha, to Ace of Base, and other groups and singers.
