Cutting my winter heat and bringing it up from the forest to my garage so I can split it for winter heat. This was a dead standing white oak tree in my forest.

so a dead standing tree - will it will be well dried wood then?

@gandalf1957 Actually the best type to harvest for firewood. Once they hit the ground and lay on the ground they begin to decay and collect moisture quickly. So yes, cutting down the dead standing tree while there is no moisture in the tree is best and it also opens up canopy space for the younger trees trying to grow. I usually cut the dead standing trees down on the third year post their dying to make sure all moisture is out of them.

A lot more to it than there is a tree Hmm let's cut it down.
