I Love Reading Books

I am an avid reader, but since my eyesight started failing several years ago, I've not read as much as I used to. Once the cataracts were removed and my sight got better, I had already been listening to audiobooks for a few years. Then someone mentioned e-books. And that's been great. I'm reading quite a lot again. Still not as much as I used to, but about three books a week.

Today, for the first time since my vision began to fail, and I got my sight back, I read a whole book in one afternoon. This is an unpudownable book. It's the first in a series, and I can't wait to get the next.

If you like reading mystery and suspense stories, I highly recommend this one.

A Roy Ballard Mystery by Ben Rehder.

I've had eye surgery that makes it hard for me to read paper books. I have a kindle that I can adjust the text size, which makes it easier to read. However, I love audiobooks. A good narration is better than any movie they could make from a book.

@Sourdad Agreed. One of my favourite narrators is George Guidall. He read Stephen King's Gunslinger series. I had read the first three, before my eyes failed me. So I started listening to the audio books. Started from the first, so I could get the same feel from each.

Those first three were read by Frank Muller, but then he had a motorcycle accident, and had to concentrate on getting better, so George Guidall took over, and he narrated all of them, so, I started again from book one. Frank Muller was good. George Guidall was better.

One other narrator who is head and shoulders above the rest, is Brendan Fraser. He's only narrated two, but he did such an excellent job, that I go back and listen to them again, occasionally. Just to hear him read.

George Guidall narrated American Gods, which is one of my favourite books. I'm losing my hearing as well, so I go back and forth between audio and kindle.

@Sourdad I have a severe hearing loss too. About two thirds gone. And yes. I listened to American Gods. I loved it.
@Serenitree @Sourdad

Ironic, when you consider that some of us so fiercely fight to be able to read while so many cruise past libraries whistling.

@Mamapolo2016 I had a friend whose son had a girlfriend who said she had never read a book except for the assigned reading in school. I asked her why! No lie.....she said "Nobody has ever written a book worth reading"

I had to stop....right there. Not even worth asking a second question. I've never heard a more stupid statement.
I would've had to ask how she thought she knew that, if she never read, but you're right. It would've been pointless.@Serenitree

@Mamapolo2016 I know. I'd had some previous conversations with her......if you could call them that.

Here's a sample....not word for word, but close enough.

Me...Do you have a job, Lisa?
Her...No
Me...Are you still in school?
Her....No
Me...Are you looking for a job?
Her....No
Me....What do you do to stay busy?
Her....My nails.
Me...What about after they're done?
Her...I tan
Me...What about in the winter?
Her....I go to the tanning salon.
Me...So, your nails and tanning must take up about three hours a week. What do you do the rest of the time?
Her....Nothing.
Me....Do you like reading?

And that's when she said that about nobody writing anything worth reading.

You see why I didn't bother going any further with that?

BTW. My friend's son didn't date her for long. He decided he needed someone to talk to after sex.
