I Am a Diabetic On An Insulin Pump

I have no idea if there are others who are kept alive on an insulin pump. It's great to be alive but I have to check my blood glucose level constantly. And calculate all the carbs I eat. And often I go hypo which aint nice. And sometimes I get fed up. And then I feel guilty because I'm alive and enjoying life.

My brother was one of the first 2 kids to get an insulin pump when they first hit the market. He's had many problems with it over the years but it has definitely changed his life. What you have now is decades of improvements and innovations built on many generations of pumps. Enjoy it and live your life to the fullest :)

@slobound Thank you. Things are better. When I was four I had to inject myself at lunch time. Mam and Dad helped me other times.

@BlodynHafJones I think the thing my brother's most thankful for is not having to prick his fingers all the time to test his blood sugar anymore. As a kid he was so furious and frustrated and his poor little fingers were toast. Times have changed.

@slobound I still have to prick my fingers. Lots! My fingers have loads of little black dots.

@BlodynHafJones Your pump doesn't monitor your glucose levels?? I thought that was standard these days. My brother's pump beeps at him if he starts to drop or gets too high and he adjusts the settings accordingly.

@slobound No. I don't live in a rich country. The health service does the best it can do.
