I Am a Diabetic On An Insulin Pump
I have been diabetic since I was little. But the last six years I had a pump. It is quite a lot of work but it has improved my health so much. I need to check my blood glucose before I eat, do exercise, after eating and so on. But the pump handset works out how much insulin I need and messages the pump to pump it in. I also have to tell it how much carbs I am having. I weigh food and calculate how many grams of carb. Luckily I like Maths! If I am hypo the pump tells me how many grams of fast carb I need. Usually this means lucozade! Which I carry everywnere. I tell the dietician that one swig is 6g carb. She goes schiz and tells me I need to measure it. But I been doing this for nearly 18 years. I can measure a swig!
