I know how you feel, I think. But, you're still young (I know it doesnt feel like it, it never does). You will find ppl who will deliver, will repay kindness with kindness, but they aren't common at all.
I've discovered, in a long and painful life, that it's worth testing someone - when you're giving to them, supporting them, ask them for some tiny effort or thing in return (the smaller the better, really). If they won't do that much for you, then you have a clear idea how much of a one-way street that relationship is. Sadly, that's what most usually happens, but not always. Please, keep looking.

@justnoone: Yes, I did - I met my wife when I was 33, so it was a long, long, search, but we've been together for 25 years, now, and we've always been very close, sharing everything and supporting each other.

Your first and most important relationship that you will ever have is with you.
Your JOB in life is to have you be happy. How you do that is for you to figure out.
Then when your true self-love is in place, then you will seek for love, not from empty and needy, but from a place of completedness.
Then build you up, validate and complete you, that is your job for you.
