Burned my finger while cooking. Advise to ease pain?

I thoughtlessly grabbed the lid of a thing I was cooking in the oven (400F) and burned the index finger of my left hand and a little bit of my thumb too. Having my finger in ice cold water eases the pain completely, but almost as soon as I take my finger off the ice cold water the burning pain gets back. That was about 2 hours ago. The finger itself doens't look too bad, other than the fact that I have a band of fingerprints missing, but the pain is bad enough I won't be able to get any sleep unless I ease the pain, and of course I can't sleep with my hand immersed in ice cold water... I do have an ice pack that's probably my only hope, but I wonder if there are other burn pain relievers or suggestions to ease the burning pain...? I've heard of applying butter or toothpaste to the burned area. I tried butter but it doesn't seem to be doing anything (although it may help it to get/feel worse). Any suggestions...? (I don't have any drugs or painkillers at home either...)

Put aloe Vera on and wrap in cling film, the air makes the pain worse. Or keep it in Ice water.
For future reference, there are a antibiotic creams that contain painkiller. (Or Solarcaine spray, etc).

My doctor says applying butter to a burn actually can worsen the injury.

Try to keep the injured hand higher than your heart - it will throb less.

Hope it gets better fast.

@Mamapolo2016 Wow, keeping my hand up helps A LOT, I'm actually surprised...
@drymer Would I lie to you, drymer?
Assuming clean and dry there's not much for pain. Ibuprofen or some other antiinflammatory and some burn cream with lidocaine if possible.

Use lukewarm to cool water, room temperature is typically ideal. the ice only numbs it temporarily by constricting blood vessels as soon as it warms up it'll go back to hurting.

I can attest the pain is back with a vengeance...

A cream for burns, not ice or water as that makes it burn more
clean it. dry it. apply burn cream. keep ice on it. & call your doc they'll probably have you zoom call to take a look at it.
@drymer triple antibiotic or similar will work fine. don't add any weird stuff to an open wound.

A slice of raw potato can be applied to minor burns. Begin by cutting a raw potato into slices. Then, take one of those slices and slowly rub it on the area of the burn. It is better if the juice of potato gets released over the burn.

Honey can prevent bacteria from infection. Spread honey on gauze and place the dressing on the burned area. You can change this bandage four times a day.

Take a wet tea bag and apply it on the burn. Make sure that the tea bag is cold to avoid adding more heat to the area.

Vanilla extract or vinegar.

These are a couple things I know of.

@SW-User Many thanks. I'll try the tea bag as I don't have any potato at home...

Soak it in cool milk as it will help to soothe, similar to drinking milk after spicy food can help to settle the burning. Also, you can apply honey to it.

Amputate it with a very sharp knife.

@LegendofPeza I think I'll try the polysporing and ice 1st 🤔

In my experience Aloe Vera Gel is the best thing for a burn. It would reduce the discomfort and prevent blistering.🙂
