The Rolling Stones never fail to make me happy. This is one of their best.

@NankerPhelge The whole album is amazing

@bookerdana I know. I bought it on vinyl when I was 17. One lad I was in school with bought it when he was 14 and he told me about "Gimme Shelter". I asked him if it was good and he said "Good? It's fucking brilliant!". When I heard it myself three years later I remembered what that lad said and he was right. I now have the album on CD.

@NankerPhelge not many bands matched their output from Beggars Banquet through Exile. Some of the best R&R ever

@NankerPhelge I think Exile on Main Street,Sticky Fingers and Let It Bleed are their finest albums

@JohnnyNoir All those came out before I really got into them. The first Stones single I bought was "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll" when I was 12. I managed to get some of their older ones second hand in the next couple of years and eventually I bought their older albums. I bought the ones you mention in the 80s (except "Let It Bleed" which I got in 1979).

@NankerPhelge for me they weren’t the same after Mick Taylor left. They still made good records but nothing like that stretch
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@JohnnyNoir He wasn't in the band very long, was he? 5 years maximum.
JohnnyNoir · 56-60, M
@NankerPhelge yep, that sounds about right.

@JohnnyNoir I think "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll" was his last album with the Stones, wasn't it? It was the title single from that album that really got me into the band, so I got into them just as Mick Taylor was about to quit. Nothing personal to do with him, it was just the way it happened. I was too young for the Stones when they released their older hits like "Satisfaction" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash" but I got those second-hand later. "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll" came along at the right time to convert me into them.

@NankerPhelge yeah, that was his last record with them. I wasn’t as crazy about it as their earlier stuff though.

@JohnnyNoir I absolutely loved "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll" when I was 12. My mum hated it like all their earlier ones and when I bought it she said "Oh no, not a Rolling Stones one".
