Right or Wrong, Is it 'un-natural' for humans to be monogamous ?

Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
I do think there should be terms for renegotiating at some point.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Natural vs unnatural is even less morally useful than right vs wrong.

This idea that there's an 'ideal' behaviour practised by our ancestors is ludicrous. To predate social constructs you probably have to go back to a point where we weren't even humans.

@CountScrofula good analyses of the question
SweetMae · 70-79, F
Everyone is different. What is good for some is not as good for someone else.
usher · 41-45, F
@SweetMae I really mean all humans as in nature, not just feelings or emotions
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I don't think it's natural for most but it's damn good for regulation of population. 👌

I don't believe humans are monogamous naturally, I think monogamy is a learned and conditioned behaviour.
That said, I'm a monogamist.😂
usher · 41-45, F
@SW-User Against nature ?
SW-User
@usher Conditioning is deep in me. I suppose it can be released and changed, but I don't see the need. There are other more pressing beliefs that are better changed in me.
The natural condition is partnering ... for safety, efficiency, survival, joy and expression of self. ... Been that way since the dawn of time.

The question is "what is the partnering layer?"

A lot of partnering involves a tight bond that leverages a wider partnership.

Some partnering is very secretive

Some partnering bonds huge families together

The Bible provides the clarity for social conduct. Laws provide additional structure.

Which has all contributed to the trend towards hot wifing.

@questionWeaver good analyses
I think as an advanced species who is able to make conscious decisions either way, no. It’s not unnatural.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Some other animals are monogamous, they mate for life. So why not humans? We can make conscious decisions. .
Tython · 31-35, M
I wouldn't say unnatural, but I don't see anything wrong with polygamy.
Sadly, it takes a while to meet your match. Astrology was used in certain cultures to encourage this monogamous behavior. To control sexual feelings and stay disciplined until one finds the right partner is not everyone’s cup of tea. So lust rules over love...hence the depleting numbers.
usher · 41-45, F
@Vivaci so therefore it might be unnatural
It’s possible in other species in Nature, so it’s not unnatural. It’s rare. @usher

meh just do whatever you wanna do
Tython · 31-35, M
@SW-User you mean "whomever"?
I don't think it's unnatural for humans to be monogamous. There are those who are lucky enough to find their true love and stay with each other without breaking that bond.
usher · 41-45, F
@LilMissAnonyMOUSE but the bond might be un-natural, even though it's very loyal
@usher In the animal kingdom(like the image you shared), it's natural for some species to be monogamous. In humans, it's natural if it's a matter of choice and not imposed on you because if it is, then it becomes unnatural because there is no free will and you are forced to live with someone you do not get along with. I think what is unnatural is wanting to have multiple partners, but that's my personal take on things.
We humans do alot of unnatural things.
What we are doing right now with technology and the internet is unnatural.
usher · 41-45, F
@LegionIscariot maybe not
eli1601 · 70-79, M
It's unnatural for men
Tython · 31-35, M
@eli1601 There's some scientific backing that supports it's women who benefit from polygamy more so than men.
usher · 41-45, F
@eli1601 and women I'm sure
usher · 41-45, F
@Tython very interesting
Miram · 31-35, F
Everything is governed by nature. Unnatural things simply don't happen.
SW-User
It's natural that some will spread their seed further than others.

@MiserableAtBest I was really interested in what Mother nature has deemed us to be.
MiserableAtBest · 18-21, F
@usher
I don’t think we are deemed to be anything, or destined to become something.
