sometimes "playing the system" can mean knowing precisely how to play with someone's emotions (emotional abuse): cleverly and craftly knowing how to get into someone's psyche, diluting their sense of self and reforming it to accept, believe, announce, acknowledge and dedicate to a manipulative, conniving and manevolent "reality". and what's worse: that person can be one so trapped that they develop Stockholm Syndrome - where even when they know they're being held captive against their will, their abductor is their hero; they're "saving them" from life.
and once that moment of bliss is over with for the offender, they make themselves to be this "victim", while the real victim takes their place as the "offender" ("you made me do this to you...") hmmm.... interesting.
