I Live In the Country

Lightning bugs! I just went to feed my outside dog and there they were. Like glitter in the night sky. A few years ago I suddenly realized that I hadn't seen any at all for a few summers. I did a little Google research and found that they are present when there is plenty of rain early in the year making their food supply plentiful. At least I think that's what it said, lol. My memory isn't what it used to be. Anyway, it is always a joy to see them. Reminds me of catching them when I was a child. Yes, we put them in mason jars for pets until mother would make us let them go. Then there were always the ones my very bad much older brother would squish just to make the rest of us mad.

@Degbeme I was reading about their diminishing numbers right now. They need damp marshy areas to survive to blinking adults. A very good article on treehugger.com/animals/whats-happening-fireflies.html
