New places

There is little more interesting than walking around a city or town that one has never explored before. Following the old streets, finding old shops, canals, hidden buildings, churches and castles is great. Even finding weird old pubs that only the locals enter. France is a great place for that, and parts of Germany. England too, of course, and Scotland. Ever been to Berwick Upon Tweed? Nothing but history!

I loved some of the beautiful pubs in Stratford

@OnlyRhonda I didn't know that aspect!

I expect there were English privateers doing the opposite though.

I did enjoy my day there, having arrived in the morning for the evening ferry back to England. I had an unexpected bonus, an arts and folk festival on, with music and dancing in many of those hidden squares.

@ArishMell Oh, yes, We had our share of privateers - but the French were experts. Much better than us.
That sounds like a lovely surprise.

@OnlyRhonda Thank you! It was - I'd driven a long way back across France and had no idea what was happening in the town.
