At a party, they have safety demonstrations and techniques taught. To do this, they need someone to show their skills on. Basically, a roomfull of people watched me get caned while learning a bit on how to cane safely.

There's a lot of them. No one is expected to participate, and during the demo it isn't allowed. My top offered to cane anyone who wanted to try, but wasn't surprised that no one volunteered. One group actually advises new people not to play on their first night.
