I Love Running

We won. My team won our 8th collegiate league championship in the last 10 years and 3rd in a row.

They are amazing but this one was personally necessary. One of my assistants took a job with our rival and shared just about everything that gave us an edge. He did nothing wrong and I don’t bother with secrets in training or strategy, but internally, I found it annoying.

The head coach of our rival is new and has been successful. He is a good guy but insecure and so finds ways to inflate his ego. That’s very human but also annoying. For the first time in 32 years coaching this team, I was struggling with the thought of losing to this team while outwardly making sure my athletes didn’t carry that burden.

We won and I need to fix my attitude. Even so, nationals, where we were runner up last year is next on the agenda and I have to refocus now.

Just venting, sorry if you read this whole thing. 🙂

When it’s more challenging, success is even sweeter. And it sounds like you handled the challenges. With grace and integrity so celebrate. Just be safe! Lately people get or or fired for doing stupid things when they are super happy :-( no text and drive, and no dipping pen in ink etc

@Mindful thank you. And good news, I am too old and boring to be anything but safe. You are right though, lots of opportunities to end your career in coaching. Your comment meant a lot. Thank you

@trackman11 then tell it to the team....they’re the ones who need to be reminded what they do and don’t do, can stick longer than 20 years

Sorry. I’m overly concerned motherly type.

I’m glad you accepted my joy for you!
