I Have Something to Say and I Want to Be Heard

One of the smartest people I know is heading to Rome soon to be ordained as a priest. And you know he's never once tried to argue for the existence of God with any psuedoscientific nonsense or any other similar crap. Evolution is fact, most of the Bible is metaphor and parable, the big bang almost certainly happened, m-theory is awesome, etc...

He just says he wants to believe that things have a purpose. His faith that he'll see his loved ones again one day has gotten him through some hard times. And you know what? I respect that.

I'd like to believe too but it's like those emails that promise 17 million dollars, absolutely nothing supporting them.

I can't understand and I've had this discussion with several on here, how they can insist:
God is good.
The Bible is his word.
Proceed to justify the atrocities described in The Bible supposedly commanded by God.

If you believe in God purely on faith, that's fair enough (but daft) but the above statements do not work.

Evolution is fact?

Isn't it called the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection, which was formulated by Charles Darwin?

@MalteseFalconPunch: It wasn't intended to be provocative. I've spent a lot of time in the past discussing such topics and I know how important it is to speak carefully so as to avoid as much miscommunication as is possible and stave off unnecessary debates.

The idea of theories versus facts merely grabbed my attention and interest, so I threw my two cents in. Either way, sorry for bothering you.
