I Respect Animals And People

So this is something id like to talk about. Dogs in cars... what is appropriate and what isnt?

I bring this up as i had an encounter with a lady a "do-gooder" if you will.
Try to make a scene about my dog briefly being in my car by itself.

I had literally just ran into my mothers to give her flowers and left my dog in the car. Not even 10 minutes. Of course the windows were open a bit and i was parked in the shade.

Well this lady walking by gets all bent out of shape about it and starts giving my mothers bf grief about the dog in the car. My dog was barking cause well she is a chihuahua and hates being left behind for any amount of time.

I could understand her concern if she had been there watching and it had been a significant amount of time and i was parked in the sun or what not, but honestly she didnt assess the situation appropriately before deciding OMG that poor dog. How dare it be left in a car.

Like im sorry would you prefer I leave it locked in the house by itself for hours on end? Like no. My dog is coming with me so she isnt alone for long.

Just grinded my gears.

Sorry, but I’m with her, even with the windows open a ‘bit’ as you say or parked in the shade it get really hot very quick inside cars. Especially that your dog get hyper and has anxiety being alone, she will get hotter that much quicker. She’s a tiny dog get one of those nice carriers that looks like a purse and you can take her in with almost everywhere you go especially if she’s content being with you and stays quiet. But if my choice was to leave her home in a cool house or hot car I chose the house.

Sorry, I'm with her...I would never leave my dog in a car unattended...not in this insane world

I could completely understand in a different scenerio. But in this case the scene she tried to cause was not appropriate.

Also my dog does not get along well with my mothers dogs yet so it was better for her to just wait in the car while i zipped in as to not cause a big thing with the other larger dogs at my moms.

But u cant know the whole scenerio from walking by im sorry. The situation needs to be properly assessed before further action is taken.
The only time it doesn't annoy me is when the car is on, and so is the AC.

Basically what im trying to get at is ppls opinons of where you draw the line.

Do you say something to the person whom stopped at the gas station to use the washroom and pay for gas that left thier dog in the car?

Like obviously you know they are not gonna be long.

Verses someone leaving thier dog in thier car in the grocery store parking lot.

Its not just black and white there are grey areas.

@MaryjaneMinute I told you one of them in my other post put your little dog in a purse carrier, you can take her anywhere. If you don’t trust the bigger dogs at your moms then phone a head and ask her to put her dogs in another room for the time you are there. If you’re only going to be a few mins put the parking break on and leave your car and ac or heat on depending on the weather. Those are just off the top of my head, but leaving her in the car with no ac isn’t an option imo

@Angeleyez thanks. She is a rather large chihuahua (mixed with a terrier of some sort) so a carrier wouldnt work for her... lol she would probably hate it.
It was a cool evening so the temp was good for her. Had i been staying longer the 5-10 minutes my mother and I would make arrangements with her dogs.

At any rate I wish you and your baby well.

For me it all depends on the temperature
Even on warm days (which can be hot in a car)
If I am just passing by, I am at that spot for a fraction of a minute, even if I do see a dog in a car, I am most likely not going to stop and break a window because i don't know how long the human has been away, couldn't have been 3 minutes, I am not going to but someone through the whole ordeal of window replacement and possible insurance issues

On the other hand if i have noticed a dog in a car for 30+ min on a hot day, i would at least contact the police, who in my area attempt to contact the car owner before breaking into the dog

Another thing I take issue with,

I am disabled, have been since birth,
Say I am driving around town, with my dog
Suddenly i have a medical issue, my dog is in the car
"Longer than it should be"
A "good Samaritan" comes along smashes my window
Now I have to worry about my medical issue, the repair of my car and getting my dog back
Just because a "good Samaritan" freaked out
all on a fixed income....
Fernie · F
@RoxClymer the "good Samaritan" only knows there is a dog locked in a closed up car and she or he does the right thing for the dog. How on earth could that person have ANY idea why the dog is in there? Your not looking at this from all sides. I would smash a window in if I thought the animal was in danger
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
The good Samaritan Doesn't have any idea why the dog is in the car, that's why, unless the dog is showing serious signs of distress, random strangers should leave it alone.

We haven't even covered the subject of over protective or anxious dogs that wouldn't think twice about biting a stranger, especially a stranger that broke into the vehicle.

I just think if you have errands to run then leave the dog at home.
