I Am Losing Weight

I’ve lost 10 pounds this month by eating a lot less and going to the gym almost every day. Some of my favorite clothes fit again! Not done yet.

Congratulations!

That was 45 days ago. If you don't mind my asking, how has it gone since then? 🙂

If you do mind my asking, oops, sorry 🤐

@Heartlander I've lost another five pounds since then! Despite the fact that we went on a vacation where I expected to put a lot of weight back on. Surprisingly, that didn't happen; I held steady while we were on vacation, eating and drinking a lot. I am still trying hard.....would like to lose another 21 pounds. If that happens and I can keep it off, I'll be thrilled. But even if I don't lose any more than I already have, it's a big improvement.

@Poppies Great! Congratulations! again!

Another 20 pounds is my goal also. Likewise I lost about 10 from my high but have been just hovering with 20 more to go. I really know that one sustained awareness effort will do it.

One thing that helped me was just knowing how to weigh myself. Like at the same time of day, under the same circumstances, every few days.

@Heartlander have you lost anymore of your next 20? I’ve lost a total of 16-18 pounds so far, depending on what day it is! Very hard now.

@Poppies

Yes, I'm down another 4 or 5 pounds. I'm trying to stabilize below 185, but I seem to be hovering a few ounces above. My short goal is below 175 and within striking range of my IBW.

Your 18 pound loss is great! And a great start. 10 pounds a month is a pretty ambitious goal. If you do the math, that means about 1,000 calories a day less input than output, in some combination of increased exercise of decreased consumption.

@Heartlander I was angry at myself because I had reached a new all-time high and it really made me look FRUMPY. I had never looked frumpy before in my life and I did not want to appear that way in any more photos. I had no patience for a gradual loss off weight. I was probably eating less than I should to lose quickly. And I have hopefully kept my metabolism up by going to the gym almost every day. I am eating more reasonably now. And I no longer look frumpy, at least in clothes.

@Poppies :) there is comfort when your classic old clothes start fitting again.

I'm trying to think of the male version of "FRUMPY". Is it .... SLOB?, BUTTERBALL? ... the COUCH POTATO look? It's especially depressing when looking in a mirror while trying to button an old suit jacket and the buttons and button holes come no closer to one another than an inch :(

@Heartlander I just looked up frumpy and it actually doesn’t say a word about overweight! It refers to a woman who doesn’t care about her appearance, out-of-date, unattractive.
Maybe slob is the closest male equivalent.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
Yes, SLOB sounds pretty close. It's a progressive thing, like if your love handles overhang your belt and your clothes don't fit what's the point of shaving, or getting a haircut, or polishing your shoes, or wearing matching socks, if any?
Poppies · 61-69, F
@Heartlander Or standing up straight, sucking in the gut. For both frumps and slobs.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
Ha haaa .... yes. But it's also progressive in the other direction. Lose a few pounds, suck in the gut, get a haircut, polish your shoes, start shaving every day ..... wow, LOOK! my two socks match! Time to pitch out all those old scuffed up shoes, faded polo shirts and replace my ragged jeans.

Hmmmm .... Rubenesque or voluptuous , and portly sound better than frumpy and slob, at least while shedding those last 20 pounds :)
Poppies · 61-69, F
@Heartlander Oh yes! My husband was calling me Rubenesque and I could buy it at 152 or so, but when I got up to 160, sorry, there was just no way for me to like it on my frame.
