People of SW were asked to recruit yahoo answer people who had no where else to go once they shut down.

@nonsensiclesnail Seems like it would be totally different gigs -- not compatible.

@uncleshawn absolutely agree.

@uncleshawn It's not.
uncleshawn · 41-45, M
@nonsensiclesnail The Yahoo people just hung around Yahoo Questions looking for questions to answer all the time?

@uncleshawn I don’t know??? I thought of yahoo answers as a place for children or stupids/ trolls and stupids. Now SW, this is the place of the bored and lonely…. and stupids.

@nonsensiclesnail Funny. Humor always has truth in it, and truth always has humor in it.

@uncleshawn Yahoo answers was very similar to SW once upon a time except that there was a point system and every post had to be in the form of a question.
Yahoo became more toxic and full of trolls over time. Social media pushed YA down even further and instead of Yahoo trying to keep up something great they just did away with it like everything else that they touch.

@REMsleep I understand I’m going to sound snarky, but when was yahoo answers great? What made it great?
uncleshawn · 41-45, M
@REMsleep Oh, so that's why everything had to be a question. Seems kind of weird.

@nonsensiclesnail It was great because of the shear volume of active users at one time that would be on there.
It was also cool because the categories that were available were a lot more functional than they are here.
There were specific categories for math, religion, food, and so much more and the people would specialise in categories to answer so you might get to know people that constantly answered a lot about religion or about food because that was their interest.
It was also cool because if your answer was voted best answer you retained a higher rank over time and this was pretty cool.
Back in the day I got some very useful information on YA a including multiple very difficult chemistry equations solved in the science section.
Best answer wasn't selected, it was voted upon by your peers.

@uncleshawn people could ask questions too but they would get 10 points taken away. I read people have been there a long time being top contributors and it all went away. I had my account for 10 years.
uncleshawn · 41-45, M
@Sunflower2021 It was like Quora?
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@Sunflower2021 Same I probably began using YA in 2005 when it began. I was not active over the last 5 years.

@uncleshawn A bit different
