I Am Not Materialistic

I do like nice things, who doesn't? My wife and I are collectors of various things too, we collect things that are of interest to us and most of it has more sentimental value than monetary value. However neither of us is interested in excess, luxury, or extravagance. Even if we were millionaires, we'd be more like the "Beverly Hillbillies" than "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous". To me there are such things as enough and too much.

We are in a phase right now where we are readjusting to find the "enough" level with just the two of us. We've never been big spenders, definitely not DH!

@CoffeeFirst In the beginning of our time together we did spend and accumulate more, but a lot of that was to "catch up" to where we wanted to be. Since then we have scaled back tremendously. Now we only get something if we can answer two questions...Do I/we NEED it? and Do I/we really WANT it? If the answer is no to either then we don't get it. We put a lot of thought into what we choose to get or not. Everywhere you go in our home is something of interest, and that is all we ever really wanted for us to enjoy and for anyone visiting to enjoy (or ponder if the case be). Our home is a reflection of US both as individuals and as a couple.

@indyjoe Love it! Each member of our family is going through the same thing--downsizing to the essentials. Even the 20-somethings, each for their own reason. With aging parents, it becomes very obvious that stuff doesn't do you much good in this life...
