I was born with a hearing impairment

Was a time when doctors knew not if I'd develop normal range.

As a little girl, my mom and I would play a game. Upon her lap she would silently mouthe words. I'd try to guess what she said

One time she silently said... I love you

My best 6 year old guess was alligator food. 🤭

Years pass and as I grew up my hearing improved but she developed cancer...

Before her death, five years ago today she gave me a locket. I think of her each time I put it on and read the inscription inside...

I can't help but think that, your seeing her mouth the words those years ago will keep it more vividly in your mind rather than having heard her say them.
It's a nice memory.
