I Dont Think Your Political View Should Decide Our Friendship

You may see me trash talk and make generalizing statements about leftists and conservatives on here, I may even say that they're all alike sometimes, but I don't really mean it. I don't really hate leftists and conservatives, I hate stupid people and a lot of stupid people happen to be either, lol. I do believe both of them possess a collective hive mind, if you will, but I know it doesn't apply to everyone in those groups. I'm not that big of an antsy bitch, lol. I have friends here who I don't see eye-to-eye with politically and probably never will, but I don't ever think less of them for it. So long as they're not so opinionated that they would think less of me for my politics either, I don't see why we can't at least be amicable.

As much as I disagree with people on here at times, I also have similar disagreements with members of my own family, yet we somehow manage to break bread together on holidays without stabbing each other with the carving knives. I may disagree with someone on politics but then turn around and wholeheartedly agree with them again on music or some other topic. As long as that’s not the lone topic of discussion, it’s quite possible to have friends with differing views. What really is disheartening is when you hear stories about families that are literally estranged following 2016, and there’s been a bit of that in my family with one person, too. I’ve got one family member who was/is a Bernie supporter who has basically isolated himself over it. He’s completely disowned anyone in the family that supported Trump, and he’s practically disowned me for not disowning them as well even though I didn’t support him, either. Now, we’ve all just proceeded these last couple of years without him, because some things are more important.

I have the same kind of opinion. What bothers me most is people who don't talk openly or think about their position and its implications, but instead just quote things they've read in the newspapers that support their positions. If you do try to draw them into evaluating what the world is actually like rather than what they have been told its like, it's not uncommon that they question your sexuality or heritage or intelligence, not that I think the first two of those in any way defines a person's ability to think, and to use either as an insult is small-minded in itself.

Politics is just conversational sport to yall. Its hard to take anything yall type seriously on here.

I've got a couple people i argue with here a lot but i like them regardless. I totally disagree with them on politics but it doesn't define a person. I think people make characatures out of others and forget they're more than that.

That's a great idea.

Well said. There’s always a few though that have to get nasty ...😊

I have friends on different sides of the political spectrum. Sometimes they say stupid things. But I know them well enough that they would have my back no matter what the situation was.

It's true that we should be amicable, but there are some political Kool Aiders here who appear to offer little except verbal bile. It's unclear if they even have personalities apart from that.
