I’m So Relieved That They Have Improved Toothpaste...

Now all we have to worry about is what Sodium Fluoride does to our brains....(has been used for roach poison and rat poison)
curiosi · 61-69, F
Fluoride was used as rat poison until Edward Bernays was hired as a propagandist by the government to cover up "The Manhattan Project" mess. It has never been FDA approved but the sheep run around screaming that we will keep our teeth forever because of fluoride. Edward would be proud the sheep bought the propaganda.

The Radium Girls were female factory workers who contracted radiation poisoning from painting watch dials with self-luminous paint.

I use baking soda

@cherokeepatti really that's all I've ever used
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User My aunt’s family used baking soda and salt when she was growing up and she’d brush her teeth right after eating anything. She never got a cavity and when she was in her 70’s had a single broken tooth that had to be surgically removed. Her dental surgeon “threw a fit” saying he never saw someone her age without a cavity. He questioned her about her dental hygiene and asked about where she lived in childhood and told her he thought she might have had natural fluoride from water wells. I know that tea has natural fluoride in it so that helps prevent cavities. Sodium fluoride is just toxic whether it prevents cavities or not.

@cherokeepatti I've never had a cavity either. But I brush 4 times a day.

I've always wanted my teeth to have teeth!

Lady down the street makes her own

@MarineBob thinking about doing that but the tubes are so easy to squeeze and use. Coconut oil, mint flavoring, and a few other ingredients would do the trick.

It's so neatly packaged too!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@goagainsttheflow oh of course

chocolate is a deadly poison for dogs
drinking 15 liters of water will kill most people

the dose determines the toxicity
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Tracos my grandpa’s Labrador retriever ate chocolate nearly every day because he did a repertoire of tricks at the village grocery store for the farmer’s when they came in the morning and afternoon for their daily breaks. I saw it for myself when he’d hear the tractors rolling up to the store he’d trot up the hill & scratch the screen door & they’d let him inside & he’d perform his tricks & they’d plop down a nickel for a Hershey bar or a chocolate-covered ice cream sandwich.

Radium was briefly in everything it was even touted as a health drink
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@REMsleep I’m pretty sure it was one thing responsible for so many cancers of the previous generation and they may not have had a clue.
TheArbitrator · 36-40, M
The study on how fluoride helps prevent tooth decay was done on calcium fluoride (CaF2), which is the most commonly naturally occurring fluoride, not sodium fluoride (NaF) or hydrofluorosilicic acid, so that's not even the same compound. The reason they use sodium fluoride instead of calcium fluoride in drinking water is because of it's higher solubility and calcium causes hard water and corrosion in pipes. Calcium fluoride is actually a whole lot safer.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TheArbitrator how much is way more expensive? Cause it would only take a bit of it, not a whole lot. A little would go a long way without damaging health in any way. Another way would be to drink black tea, it’s got enough fluoride in one cup a day to do the job.
TheArbitrator · 36-40, M
@cherokeepatti Right, with all the fluoride in a cup of tea, I don't see the need to add it to toothpaste. Most kids are getting enough anyway. On top of that, they're brushing their teeth 2 or 3 times per day. Buying expensive toothpaste isn't worth it anyway. My teeth are just as white and I use baking soda.

I don't know but I imagine even if they are saving a fraction of a penny on 1 mg of fluoride, that cost adds up to millions considering the large amounts of toothpaste being produced each year. It probably wouldn't be an issue if these companies weren't greedy money pinchers. And when the competition is doing it and getting away with it, saving money, you either do it or try to set an example.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TheArbitrator coconut oil is a good base for toothpaste, it has lauric and caprylic acid in it that help control the germs.
