Almost 20,000 new cases of Covid-19 in USA today

Americans need to smarten up.

Even if everyone followed all the instructions, the availability of the testing, the lack of PPE, the need to keep working to survive and not shutting down public transit pretty much guarantee it will spread. Asymptomatic/mildly symptomatic people still have to use buses and trains to go to work and shopping, the common spaces are not being cleaned after each use so one person on a train infects hordes more. People with symptoms struggle to get tested, so communities don't know the real figures or risks, and very few people can afford to skip work anyway so they'll have to go out everyday and infect more people. Or they'll go to a hospital and infect a healthcare worker who doesn't have enough protection, and that healthcare worker infects all the patients they interact with.
@plungesponge As I understand it the idea is to not overwhelm limited emergency services.

oh absolutely. The issue is that this wasn't prepared for at a national level early enough and even now the reliance on individuals and state governments to manage it isn't going to be enough to keep the numbers down. Unfortunately, this is going to end when the virus runs out of hosts, not when the government gets control of it

That’s sounded very abrasive. We still gotta go to the store to buy groceries. People still work so I can buy groceries. Kudos to those cashiers going to work probably for cheap pay. They deserve hazardous duty pay. Or at least pay them $20/hr.
@SimplyTracie Not intended as abrasive. The infection rate in America is obviously spiraling out of control, and more so than in many other nations. It must be American attitudes and their leadership at fault.

People can still go out. But I suggest taking extra precautions like every single person should be wearing gloves.. all the employees at stores and such should be continuously sanitizing common touch spots and gas pump handles

@BlueRidingHood Ditto on both your observations. The administration was slow to react. And people didn’t take it seriously until they saw it hit home.

There were no test kits available. Then test kits were available but not for everyone - you pretty much had to be really sick to get tested.
Now it’s readily available but too many have been exposed to the contagion and are infecting family.

Tell me about it. I drive for a living and all day today, people were walking around and having parties like nothing is happening.
@SinlessOnslaught Trump is sending troops to the Canadian border to prevent it from entering. Meanwhile, the threat is America and not the reverse. America could lose a trading partner over this. No more water, wood, oil and ore.

@SinlessOnslaught lol I know. It's like when people are told to stay home, it makes them want to get out even more. Tons of people out yesterday, but I did notice today there is way less traffic on the highway

It is not necessarily smarts.I would say most people I know are following guidelines they are given, just too little, too late.NYC is a problem with everyone so close.I don't think finger pointing need to be pointed at a time like this but rather if you have something to say, well wishes and prayers. This virus knows no no bounds. It could easily affect any place and has.
@Butterflykisses24 fingerprinting4 s? Anyway, the figures show that Americans are doing something wrong. And it needs correcting now.

And it's not going away

@SW-User This was actually expected, preventive measures take time and the virus has a long incubation period
SW-User
@bookerdana yup... it's gonna take a while 😖

Well when you have local health officials to use public transit and not worry about large group gatherings...... NYC is the result.
And we haven't even seen the peak yet possibly mid- April or early May, but the virus doesn't care about dates.

20 000 tested and confirmed positive. Imagine how many people didn’t get tested yet
