So they’re saying hydroxychloroquine is the drug to eliminate “coronavirus”, COVID 19 (SARS-CoV-2). I seriously hope it works

it is unlikely to do much of anything.
malaria is not a virus and therefore unlikley to be effective.
there is also almost no evidence that the drug can treat or protect from covid.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow right now public image and ego trips are worthless.
even with the best possible outcome, action needs to be taken now to curb the spread or a lot of people will be hurt and killed.
@UnlikelyTomato No argument. But that is kind of hard when the people in charge see everything as a marketing problem.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Lets hope the powers at be get their shit together.
a doctor in New York is reporting a lot if not most patients who are put on ventilators die anyway.

This is what I have read........Hydroxychloroquine is safe and in at least three international tests was found 100% effective in treating the coronavirus.

Now if you live in Michigan you are out of luck!

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs literally threatened all doctors and pharmacists in the state who prescribe or dispense hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19.

The agency’s March 24 letter warns physicians and pharmacists of professional consequences for the prescribing of hydroxychloroquine (and chloroquine). Beyond the rational recommendation against hoarding as production of this medication needs to be ramped up, the letter deviates into open threats of “administrative action” against the licenses of doctors that prescribe hydroxychloroquine.

The letter also instructs pharmacists to ignore physician orders for this medication.
@curiosi polítics involved in a lot of this stuff.

They’re also giving Interferon Alfa 2b, another potential drug, a hard time as well.
@curiosi I keep seeing this 100% effectiveness claim by everyone except medical professionals. I have to wonder where the idea is coming from.

It is one of the drugs in testing and has shown some promise. It may need to be administered in combination therapy. Of course, it wouldn't be a substitute for a vaccine. It would only be a possible treatment for those already sick.

A treatment is a good start at least
@SW-User
@SW-User I read it might have to be taken in conjunction with antibiotics and it also has side effects.
SW-User
@James1956 Yes, very much so, it would be a major step forward.
The US definitely seems to be clinging to that idea but the actual science is very spotty with mixed results and like the drug from Fujifilm it only really seems to be effective if you start treating people within a few days of infection which makes it not very useful in alot of countries because the US for example is not even testing people until they have severe symptoms.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I’m also interested in the drug Interferon Alfa 2b, and how that will do here.
@MarkPaul Yep. If you actually have malaria or lupus you are screwed.
goliathtree · 56-60, M
Well, Doctors at New York's Mt Sinai are taking it as a prophylactic against catching the disease, so it's either desperation or there is something to it.
@goliathtree @PicturesOfABetterTomorrow so what do you guys think about Interferon Alfa 2b?
goliathtree · 56-60, M
@Temporallube I get the feeling you will get just as much info from google as you will from the two of us SW Doctors.
@goliathtree 😂🙌🏽
NIC0LE · F
Say that 5 times fast...I hope it works, though.
@NIC0LE lml yes!! 💪🏾 The winner and all time drug tongue twisting champion 🏆 😁 goes to me!
NIC0LE · F
@Temporallube you suck. Lol. I can't stop laughing. 😂
@NIC0LE 😁🤪🙌🏽
masaca · 61-69, M
Wait, didn't some guy die the other day from taking this medication because trump said it's the way to go?
masaca · 61-69, M
@goliathtree Fish tank cleaner?
goliathtree · 56-60, M
@masaca Yes. Fish tank cleaner that clearly says not for human consumption, that contained I believe chloroquine phosphate (you would have to check on that) that is not the same compound as hydroxychloroquine. Hence my bleach analogy.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow
after watching Fox and Friends who have been fixating on so called wonder cures and actively encouraging their viewers to take matters into their own hand
This is a multifaceted collection of self-correcting problems. I say don't infringe on someone's right to be fatally stupid.
SW-User
I'm skeptical but there needs to be more testing
@SW-User me too, but I really do hope it works with no side effects
SW-User
@Temporallube me too but I heard it had horrible side effects for some

@masaca thanks for this link
caesar7 · 61-69, M
...I made a joke with the pharmacist and put a few boxes in my pocket and acted as if I was going to walk out with them...he laughed..but can you imagine the staff that would actually steal the drug?
@caesar7 and I heard there was a guy who self medicated the drug and died.
caesar7 · 61-69, M
@Temporallube so I heard....just don't take things in your own hands as they say.
@caesar7 @caesar7 indeed. I’m surprised no one is talking about Interferon Alfa 2b. That’s another potential drug.
