Of smokers who have quit, What methods have you used?

I am well aware I need to quit as well as the many reasons why. I need to know how YOUR ideas helped you go completely smoke free.

Sunflower seeds.
My friend played a big role in helping me quit. She was there to ensure that I never gave into the urge to smoke again. So hand over all your lighters and cigs to the person who matters to you and make a promise to them.
It definitely worked for me.

I tried a number of things....gum, a computer that slowly weened me from cigarettes (that worked for 18 months then I started up again).

Finally I just had to go cold turkey...no tobacco...none...it has been 11 years last July....Oh I still have the occasional craving. If I can do it after almost 40 years of smoking heavy...anyone can. You just have to decide to do it....at all costs.

Took two things, some practical tips which I got from an American Lung Association quit smoking pamphlet and motivation which I got from seeing first hand the progressive effects of emphysema. The latter scared the smoke right out of me. You have to have that no way am I going to be a smoker anymore dedication or you will fail every time.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy, e.g. a patch, gum, spray, etc. I used an inhalator because it also provides the action of smoking, a bit like vaping really. I think I used two cartridges a day at first but quickly reduced to just one. I'm sure a lot of the time the cartridge was spent but it still satisfied the craving. I was able to cease NRT after about 3 months.

Exercise, learn your triggers that make you crave, nicorette patches and Tootsie Roll Pops for the oral fixation.

It was abusive.

I worked out the issues that made me smoke, not eat, self-harm and hate myself.

I used the nicotine patch and it worked for me, smoke free for 12+ years.
