I Believe Kids Should Have Chores

My 3 have to do things around the house and garden.
I don't ask for a lot just wash and dry the dishes, help out in the garden and keep their rooms tidy.
Am I a bad mother for this? I don't think so but my eldest often believes so.

No, all these things are reasonable and teach children responsibility and a work ethic. If your eldest is complaining about her chores, let her do them in the nude . . I always find household tasks more fun without clothes!

@DaneeK Your manservant? 😏
DaneeK · 31-35, F
@chrisCA Just a houseboy. Just have a feed him and house him. Every girl should have one. ❤
@DaneeK *cleans dishes* Hey, it's getting a little chilly, please turn off the AC!

Chores help you build character and shows responsibility.

Our 'rents managed a small condo complex on S. Padre Island back then and we had our chores to help out as well. Simple things mostly but yes, there were times myself, or sister or brother would whine but honestly, its just part of being a fam and I realize that now of course.

My teen sons have some chores and I hear a lot of grumbling too .. but they do them or there are reasonable consequences. It's an important part of preparing them for life on their own.

I believe in chores. My daughter complains about the easiest chores sometimes too; it's a kid thing.

I had to work in cotton fields when I was 12, I don't think drying dishes ever hurt anyone.

A friend of my oldest daughter had a friend in high school who used to tell me how poor a provider, and lousy a parent, I was because my kids had chores, had to pay for their own car insurance, pager bill .. and so on .. I told her she was a spoiled brat and needed a sound spanking .. .. she said her parents gave her everything (they did) and never spanked her (they didn't .. .. but I did .. that's another story) .. ..

Fast forward she is now married, a mother of 3 girls, and in myndaughters wedding .. .. she makes a toast to me .. saying that in high school she was my worst parenting critic and we were at odds .. he knows exactly what I mean .. she continued now that I am a parent I can only hope I do half as good with my daughters as he did with his .. .. ..

Tho your oldest may not believe this is good for her now .. likely one day she will .. .. ..

If your oldest is over 12 they resent the physical discipline.
BarefootMum · 46-50, F
@Pfuzylogic She's 15

@BarefootMum Homestly if you use corporal punishment at that age you are going to only get resentment.

Yes kids should have chores life is not free and the parent are not their maids or servant and it will get them ready for when they get older. Plus you can explain to them well if everyone helps out then we have more time together if I have to do everything well we go nowhere.

Nothing wrong with that.your oldest is just at the rebellious age maybe

You are not asking a lot.
Of course some teenagers, your daughter included, may think you are slave driver. Lol
