I am thinking about going back to college, or going to grad school, any advice?

I graduated college 5 years ago, and haven't found a job with my current degree. So I am faced with this conondrum, do I go back to college and get a degree in a different field, or do I go to grad-school to get a masters degree? The problem is I'm not employed, and money is tight in my family as my mother just went on disability. So I will need loans, grants, and other forms of asistance to do either. What would you recommend as my best course of action?

What field is your current degree?

Honestly I can't say, because that's a tough one, especially without knowing how the job market will react.

If the two choices were equal, I'd definitely say go for a master's over just another four year degree, but it's not equal, it's probably more costly and harder.

Plus, from what I've found, in general, companies are just checking a box, does this person have a degree? Maybe in a certain general field.

I'd say keep applying, to different jobs.

Also, online school might be cheaper and easier to get to, but it's harder as in some respects you are teaching yourself. Though certain schools have gotten more videos which is nice.

@Viper I have a BA in communications.

@Razoreye001 Yeah, no offense meant, but I think communications is one of those fields where they pump out a lot more degrees than they have jobs for 😥

And then they get judged on how they look more than the degrees themselves, and it's partly about who do you know and how do you look.

You might have to get a job in a different field, or network like hell and get lucky.

If you were to go back what degrees would you be looking at going for?

@Viper Criminal Justice, Psychology, or something to do with the government.

@Razoreye001 👍 one of the first things my Psychology professor taught everyone (I took it as an elective), was that basically you have to get your doctorate if you want to work in Psychology, with a master's you can work as the manager if a restaurant, basically, is what he said.

Criminal Justice surely would like more people, and they certainly have some communication roles.

Though, like I said, maybe talk to someone at a police station?

Also, like I said, if I would go back to school, I'd be going for the masters as it just looks better (in my opinion) than another 4 year degree.

@Viper I see.
