I Support All Military Soldiers

My grandfather was in WW2 and this is a letter to his parents in 1944 when he was on guard duty one night

I am writing this while on watch from 2 till 4 a.m. Jerry is lobbing his stuff at me. Everyone else is in their slit trench, and I remain on top.
I have seen alot of men die now, and I pray of my end should come, you will take it as you have taken all reverses .... I always wanted you to know Dad that I never regretted joining the army, I never regretted coming out here and I never will.

I had a duty to do to you and to my race, to my country and to myself. I fulfilled part of that duty on the beach and I now wait the opportunity of doing a further portion.
If I should go the way of those brave men, my one regret is that I was not spared to take more of our enemies with me.
I hate them Dad, with a hatred I never believed was in me, and they have already found I am not a defenceless Jew to be murdered at will. I have been given a gun and taught how to use it, and I do.

Reading over this letter I do not know weather to send it or not. I have decided however to keep it for a few days and then see what happens.
Cheerio then my dear Father. May the Lord bless you and grant you a happier life

That is truly very very moving. My grandfather fought in the war too. Every November 11th I go with my daddy to remembrance parade. Thanky you so much for sharing something so personal with us. To those that fought and those that didn't come back, I salute you all. Brave to the end.

None so brave as those that lay down their lives.
The reality of war is nothing like the movies - Everyone walks out alive.
There are no poppy fields in Cinemas
This is the difference between the kind of soldier who fights in a war and the heroic brave soldier you see in the movies.
