I Want to Think of 100 Things That Make Me Happy

3
Writing makes me happy. I should get back to doing more of that. I think I started writing stories when I was in the 2nd or 3rd grade. I remember having a task in school, to write a sentence that went along with a picture shown on each page of the workbook. I decided to write sentences that related to the page before it, and as it strung along, a story was created.

From there, I explored poetry in Middle School and the beginnings of High School. Sad things, of course. Often related to unrequited love or feeling different... I wish I had more compelling issues to discuss when I was in High School, but I'll try to take it easy on myself and not criticize too hard.

Anyways, the second half of my High School career gave way to expository writing. I tried writing short stories in every genre, and eventually found the community of written roleplaying online. A lot of my pastimes were spent reading or writing. I loved it. The challenge of building a world inside my head, birthing characters, and constructing conflicts whether minor or global-reaching was intoxicating. I felt alive when my words touched paper.

When I got to college, my interests changed... but more on that later.

I'm glad to know that you enjoyed writing so much. I taught English and writing for 25 years. Also, my father was a writer.
