I Work In Retail

Are most retail jobs understaffed? I seem to get called in a good bit because we are always understaffed and a lot of employees are not reliable. I feel like a chump for agreeing to go in so much but then I feel sorry for the managers I like being in such a bind most of the time.

I've always covered for others in all my jobs.. I once was in the middle of grocery shopping when I was called and asked to come in.. I left my shopping trolley and went in to work.. I was a bit annoyed to find it was only because someone else was sulking that they didn't come in.. but I always covered others.. I'd often end up working 7 days a week, often double shifts...

I don't think it's just retail..

So many people in today's world ate unreliable.....especially in customer service and retail. Those of us who are reliable and dependable take a beating because of the dedication to getting the job done
See the reason I don't bother applying anymore is quiet simply that I know that people other people are not reliable so what it in effect means is I will not get any life to myself because I have open availabity so I will be scheduled to perform 8 hour shifts and no greater than 12 hours later be expected to go back into work which means I might be able to get home an watch a single episode of something 30 minutes long and then hit the hay, managers are often in a terrible situation and people like me are the sacrifical lamb they throw at the problem. Work life balance ? hahahaha.... i could be their hero but I'm not willing to be that devoted.

if retail actually paid a decent wage I might consider being reliable.

But lets be honest anything less than like 25 dollars an hour and no way.

those cowards at the fight for 15 didn't ask for enough.
