I Need a New Job

But I'm tired of putting in applications. Why can't they just hire me on the spot? 🙂

It is always a catch 22 situation, you need experience to get a job and you need a job to get experience. Hiring managers today may get literally hundreds of resumes for any given job, if they have more than one job posted that could easily multiply to thousands. There is no way in hell there is enough time to read all they get. Most have subordinates go through and weed out those they know aren't qualified. They can't check all the references either, only those who make the final cut will have references checked.

@lasergraph True as well. That's another reason I hate putting in apps. Becase I feel like I'm wasting my time. Which I have been considering that I've only gotten one interview. At least I know I can write good cover letters. Hate I didn't get that job. They paid well, at least more than what I had hoped for as a recent grad with no experience in that exact area.

@iamnikki I understand. It is sad we have moved into a world where everyone is a number and there is no personal connection. Sometimes if you were given a chance at an interview your personality could help bring you over to them. But getting that personal contact is the hardest thing of all. I wish I had some good advice but I really don't. I remember how frustrating it was applying for most everything I thought I could do.

@lasergraph Yes, I hate that you have to know someone. It just seems like a big game. Go to college, get education, but have to know someone to get a job. Why not just skip school, and just be buddies with the CEO?😩

Same here that's why I stayed at my crappy job because it takes forever to find another one .
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@SW-User yep. Been at my crappy job 2.5 years. Not that I've been actively searching for employment though.

One of the best ever job-hunting guides recommends presenting oneself in-person as one of the most effective ways for securing a job. Read "What Colour is my Parachute", I suggest, if you've not already done-so!

@sometimeslonelytoo Yess. I've learned about the computer filters and tailor my resume and cover letter especially to use those key words. I should try again to get a job in person

Last time I've personally witnessed this result in success was about four years ago when I was with someone, suggested it, and right there and then...!
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@sometimeslonelytoo Nice. I may try. I put in and called a few days later. They told me one position had been filled but the other hadn't at the time. I asked when they'd be interviewing for the other. She said next week, which is this week. I hope I get a call. At least I was able to speak to the HR lady and give her my name. I also smiled while talking to her to sound cheery😕

I’d hire you if you don’t mind being paid in SW hearts 🤗

Seriously, I hear there's a labor shortage, you'd think people would snap up someone with your professionalism.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@SW-User I don't have any professionalism lol
SW-User
@iamnikki Whut.

All the posts you put up and the few times we've spoken, you exude more professionalism than most of the people I work with.

@SW-User Well thanks😃
