Cutting down trees to make books vs Cutting down trees to make factories that produce digital reading technology

Which one is worse? Please explain.
BlueVeins · 22-25
Well you'd expend far fewer trees in the latter case, but trees aren't really the main resource input there...

I think go with growing trees. Paper is more easily recyclable at least, and growing trees is probably more environmentally friendly than building factories.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
It's not about cutting down trees. It's about replacing them with more trees.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
@InterstellarButterfly Thanks for the info. Sad about the concrete but does it have to do with robbing the soil off its fertility ?
InterstellarButterfly · 26-30, F
@MasterofNone They plant quick growing trees and cut them down fast, and they aren't always native species that suit the local flora and fauna. Chopping down a natural forest to replace it with a managed plantation only really helps profits, not the environment. Ancient woodland is disappearing fast, and it's a knee jerk reaction sometimes just to plant trees, but it has to be the right kind of planting. It's complicated for sure.

@InterstellarButterfly it's like humans only know how to fuck the environment up no matter how much they try to fix it

There are no factories for digital reading technology.
Riemann · 31-35, M
@SW-User factories that produce reading technologies such as computer, cellphone etc
SW-User
@Riemann Those already exist for other purposes. Adding online books won't increase our eco-footprint. It reduces it.

Same result.
