I Have Lost People I Love From Cancer

Cancer is a nasty beast. My wife has lost many in her family from it. It is equal opportunity and will strike any age, gender, race or religion and it has no politics. It is an enemy to all and the one thing we can all come together about. It is relentless in its attacks and we should be just as relentless in our defense. I am sorry for your loss and I could never make that loss any less severe, I hope that time can ease it and allow you to move forward.

My mom's 2 year anniversary was in May. Its still hard for me to believe she is gone. My condolences to you and your family. 🤗

So many people say that you (we) will get over the loss with time. Those people are foolish. The hole in our heart does not mend or grow smaller. We do however build a fence around that hole, a fence to keep us from falling into the abyss. We look at the hole and remember our loved ones, remembering the good times and the bad times. We reflect on how their lives shaped ours.

Certain dates and anniversaries make it harder to deal with the loss: the two anniversaries you mentioned, her birthday, and the hardest, in my opinion, Mother's day which is a cruel reminder of the loss you suffered. Sending you love and hugs.

I'm so sorry for your loss. A year can be like an instant with such losses. It's like losing an arm or a leg. A part of you is missing. A part of you that you took for granted.

I am so sorry. The better the relationship, the greater the loss. To be so sad a year later makes me understand what a fine mother she must have been.

It takes a while for the magnitude of the loss to sink in. I hope it eases for you soon.
