Hearing a sound I think is cicadas!

First time in a long time.

Once we visited Provence in France and they had all these souvenir clicky cicada toys. Have never seen them (the toys) in the US.

I just heard them recently, as well. It brought back memories, of when my dad told me what that very loud buzzing sound was.

@Peapod I've only heard their very loud buzzing in the trees, twice. I had never heard them here in Florida, until fairly recently. They stayed around for a few days, and I did like knowing that they're still surviving and making a big noise. :)

@Piper You are so much like me in this thinking. I just enjoy the sounds of nature as I know it. I don't like the thought of any of these creatures disappearing. It's depressing enough that I don't see honey bees anymore. 🐝

I am surprised that even your area has been late in having the cicadas come out. I just assumed it was something with the northeast.

The thing that has been around in droves here are the fireflies. They just make summer feel like summer. 🤗

@Peapod I rarely see honey bees, either. I never see fireflies, anymore. It's encouraging when I hear of them still lighting up the evening...in some places. 🤗

@Mamapolo2016 Not quite, because we don't have as many right now, but I think it is still them!
Oh going there soon! 🤗

@BloviatingBuffoon Lucky! Have a wonderful time!

@BloviatingBuffoon have you been there before?
Ive seen them

In their natural cycle, they only make those loud chirping sounds a few years apart. They don't chirp every year.
They are very ugly. We once found one with a string and note tied to its leg.

@JohnnySpot Yes, I have seen them before. Our son used to scare his sister to death with the shed shells!
They appear in some parts of the U.S., too.

i think it sounds creepy

@MartinTheFirst I don't especially love the sound of cicadas but Provence is a happy memory
