I Want to Live In the Wilderness

My mother's side of the family are from the East of Bhutan, the wild and rugged area that sees fewer tourists. Intrepid travellers venturing east are often rewarded with group free dzongs and temples, beautiful silks and embroidery and lush bird filled forests. It's a remote region which is surprisingly densely populated, with remote settlements secreted high above the road or in isolated valleys.

The lower altitudes mean that late spring and summer there are hot, humid and sweaty with plenty of insects. The monsoon rains between May and August can cause havoc on the fragile roads.

My mother's side of the family are in Lhuentse up in the North east. They are of the long established weaving communities. I long to go thete, to live and refocus once I have completed my training, maybe for a few months of six, before I begin practising my medical calling.
