Science isn't religious at all.. it is simply of making observations and performing experiments through the scientific method. Assumptions are allowed in science, especially in the creation of simplified models, but must be addressed as possible sources of error.
FindTheBlue · 26-30, F
Science is not a religion and that is a fact, not an opinion up for debate. Science doesn't assume, that's why theories exist. Even evolution is still just a theory, technically.
BarbedBerry · 31-35, F
... hypothesis is a step in the method, part of moving towards discovering a "truth". Not really sure what you are trying to insinuate here OP.
BarbedBerry · 31-35, F
Also, early science had nothing to do with common sense. What used to be "common sense" was that diseases were caused by demons and the sun orbits around the earth. Of course, it is now "common sense" that viruses and bacterial infections cause disease, the world revolves around the sun and not the other way around. Science was never determined by common sense, science is the force responsible for shaping it. You have it a bit backwards.

I tried to

Science is a a discipline based on fact and repeatable experimentation, not mere guesses or supposition. And "solid common sense" is a form of reason, even if you chose not to see that.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Assumption of what? The existence of fact? Yes, I'll assume that fact exists.

This gave me a headache 🤕
rain0069 · 31-35, F
@FindTheBlue early science held no reason or following , it was solid comon scene
rain0069 · 31-35, F
@ChipmunkErnie all of which is the making of reason , assumption
rain0069 · 31-35, F
@ChipmunkErnie science is no longer a truth is more hypothesis

@BarbedBerry thanks for the feedback

@ChipmunkErnie fair enough

@BarbedBerry believe what you will
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
I'd say there is a difference between common sense and common belief. Belief that illness was caused by demons might be common belief, observing that if you stick your hand in the fire it burns is more common sense.
